Bonding

Bonding is a wonderful and safe technique for fixing cosmetic flaws in teeth and even replacing damaged tooth structure. Bonding can help to conceal stains and cracks, fill gaps, and restore chipped or broken teeth. At Sinking Spring Family Dental, we utilize a moldable plastic, called resin, to cover existing teeth or replace missing parts of the tooth structure. Once the resin hardens and bonds to the existing tooth, it blends in and looks very natural.

Bonding can quickly and painlessly solve numerous dental problems such as:

  • Change the color of teeth.
  • Whiten teeth that are too dark or stained.
  • Hide cracks in teeth.
  • Close spaces between teeth.
  • Lengthen small teeth.
  • Restore chipped or broken teeth.
  • Restore decayed teeth.
  • Restore worn teeth.
  • Protect teeth from further damage.

Bridges

Bridges are permanent dental restorations that are used to replace missing teeth. There are many types of bridges, though our dentists can help you make the best choice. The most traditional bridge, which consists of porcelain fused to metal, is also the most popular because porcelain resembles the natural color of your teeth. With a traditional fixed bridge, two crowns are placed over two anchoring (abutment) teeth, and they are attached to artificial teeth (pontics), filling the gap created by missing teeth. Dental bridges can last for several years, but they may require replacement or need to be re- cemented due to normal wear over time.

A fixed bridge can help:

  • Fill space of missing teeth.
  • Maintain facial shape.
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.
  • Restore your smile.
  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.

Crowns

A crown covers the entire surface of a tooth, giving it back its original size, shape and function. Also known as a “cap”, a crown can be used to protect a tooth that cannot be helped by other restorations, such as fillings. Many different materials can be used for crowns, but porcelain crowns are by far the most popular, as they most closely resemble natural teeth. Like most restorations, crowns are very durable, but they will need to be replaced after some time. Porcelain crowns can help to restore your smile by bringing back the original shape, color and size of your tooth.

Reasons for crowns:

  • Broken or fractured teeth.
  • Cosmetic enhancement.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • Fractured fillings.
  • Large fillings.
  • Root canals.

Veneers

Veneers are custom-made pieces from porcelain formed into the shape of your tooth. They are very thin and created in a professional dental laboratory. Veneers are bonded to the front of the teeth, creating a beautiful smile. Veneers can be used to transform your smile, and they are often an alternative to crowns for many different situations. Just like other dental restorations, veneers are very durable, but they may need to be replaced over time so you can keep your smile looking its absolute best.

Since veneers can change the size and shape of a tooth, they can be used for a variety of purposes, such as:

  • Close spaces between teeth.
  • Lengthen and change the shape of teeth.
  • Whiten stained teeth that resist conventional whitening.
  • Improve the appearance of chipped, cracked or worn teeth.
  • Protect teeth from further damage.
